Personalized Learning
Today I was asked to define personalized learning in a group of amazing DSISD leaders. We all came to this task with our own experiences, thoughts, knowledge and ways that we learn. We found ourselves all personalizing learning for ourselves - some went off on their own to reflect, some dove into research on websites. We ALL learned from one another and we ALL challenged and pushed each other through discussions around personalized learning.
So what is personalized learning? Each one of us will probably still leave here with a different definition than the person next to us... but we are all right and we have all grown in our understanding of one another AND personalized learning. I (with the help of the internet and some brilliant people in my group - because stealing is how I learn :) ) defined it simply as, "learning tailored to strengths, needs, and interests that includes learner voice in what, how when, and where learning happens." I hope that my own children find themselves in classrooms that do just that.
Now go personalize your own learning! Know your strengths AND discover new ones, know your needs AND discover new ones, follow your passions AND discover new ones!
